Storyline

Faced with the vicious cycle of poverty and violence, local residents in the Frayser community in Memphis City expressed disappointment and dissatisfaction with the local government's inaction.

Brandon Webber, a 20-year-old African American, was shot and killed by the U.S. Marshals on Wednesday night in Frayser.

According to the U.S. Marshals Service, their officers were attempting to serve an arrest warrant for multiple felonies on Webber when they saw him getting into a car outside a home on Durham Avenue.

According to statistics, more than 40 percent of the residents live in poverty in Frayser. The region has long struggled with poverty and high unemployment, which can lead to a decrease in security, and to a large extent affects the relationship between the local police and the people.

Local residents expressed their dissatisfaction with the poor management.

"I've been here 42 years. I've seen a lot of changes," said Kenny, a local resident.

Kenny explained that the city council can make better changes for the community but they refuse to do so.

"Well, it's [the change] not good. There is a lot of people living here that are on section aids. The city council is going to ruin Frayser. There is a number of things they can do but it's not going to happen, so it pretty much is going to get worse and worse," he said.

Looking to the future, many residents are not sure what to make of it.

"I don't know what my future may be in the next few years, I don't know," said Jay, another resident.
