Several days of persistent heavy rain in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region resulted in severe flooding, causing widespread damage, leaving motorists stranded and forcing the evacuation of thousands of local residents.
Since China entered its flood season in June, southern parts of the country have experienced intensive bouts of rainfall, affecting hundreds of thousands of people and inflicting damage on a large scale.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Management, over 6,000 people trapped in floods in Guangxi have been successful rescued by Tuesday.
A town in Rong'an County of Liuzhou City was hit hard by floods that submerged roads, bridges and drowned local residents' crops on Tuesday.
Fortunately, residents said they received early warning and were evacuated before the floodwater poured in.
In urban areas of Liuzhou, many vehicles were stranded on Monday and Tuesday as many roads in low-lying areas were inundated by floodwater.
"I was driving my car and everything was fine. But a big truck driving towards me brought a big wave, so here we are," said a driver surnamed Tan whose car was stuck under a bridge on Tuesday.
Some other motorists who took their chances on the flooded roads also saw their vehicles becoming helplessly stuck, prompting local rescue teams to respond.
According to Guangxi's emergency management department, over 286,000 residents have been affected by the flooding, with one person missing and 9,300 residents relocated as of 17:00 Tuesday.
