Storyline

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has recently promised unremitting and arduous effort to address climate change.

Li, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and head of a national leading group for addressing climate change and energy conservation and emission reduction, made the promise when he presided over a meeting on climate change, energy conservation and emission reduction.

He first reviewed China's significant progress in dealing with climate change, conserving energy and reducing emissions in recent years, citing that the carbon dioxide emissions intensity and the release of major pollutants have kept declining.

China is the largest developing country, Li said, adding that it will continue to work hard to realize the goal that China's carbon dioxide emission is expected to peak around 2030 and the emissions intensity will afterward reduce considerably.

China is ready to work with the international community to stick to the principles of common but differentiated responsibilities, equity and respective capabilities and safeguard The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement and their implementation details, to promote global climate governance to a more just, cooperative and win-win direction.

Li also said China will focus on energy conservation and emission reduction in the areas including industry, transportation and construction, developing energy saving and environmentally friendly industries and accelerating technology breakthrough in clean energy and low carbon areas.
