Storyline


China's Jing ethnic group celebrated the Ha festival on Thursday in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
Listed as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2006, the Ha Festival is the most important traditional festival for the Jing ethnic group. The festival includes a greeting the god parade, entertainment performances and feasts lasting a whole week.

The first day of the festival is for greeting the god. With the sound of drums and firecrackers, a parade of Jing people, dressed in their traditional costumes, carry the altar from the Ha pavilion to the center of the festival in the village and then to the beach to welcome the God of Sea.

The happy atmosphere has drawn many visitors to take part in the the festival.

"I think it is quite lively here and those who play the waist drums and the girls are both amazing and beautiful," said Wang Fuhua, a photographer from east China's Anhui Province.

"It has a good effect on stretching out our cultural inheritance. It means our society is prosperous and powerful," said Wen Jintao, the leader of a Chinese photographer team.

The Ha festival is also called the "chang ha" festival, which in Chinese means singing songs. Hence, the festival is mainly about singing.
