Storyline

Special forces units of the Chinese Armed Police Force's regional corps in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region conducted a fast roping drill recently, to improve the troops' universal mobility and rapid deployment capacity.

In the drill, the soldiers were required to descend a thick rope from a helicopter without any protection with a load no less than 10 kilograms.

After sliding down from the rope, the soldiers quickly ran to form a tactical formation.

To make sure that the helicopter can take off at any minute, the soldiers had to jump down from the helicopter which was flying two meters above the ground at the speed of more than 20 kilometers per hour.

"It is a comprehensive test for soldier's physical and psychological strength and their adaptability. It poses a higher requirement for actual combat ability of integrating equipment with manpower," said Zhou Zhen, a commander of anti-terrorism special force detachment of Chinese Armed Police Xinjiang Regional General Corps.

Fast roping is a quick way to deploy special combat soldiers to the ground in operations, but it is dangerous. It requires guts and skills to descend from helicopters that dozens meters above the ground to places that are unfamiliar.

Soldiers have to go through thousands of simulated trainings before they actually descend from the helicopter.

"The integration training further enhances seamless synergy between the special force's combat capacity and the helicopter airborne force in terms of joint command, professional coordination, and the air-to-ground strike, to promote the multi-element joint operation ability," said Liu Lieqiang, director of the teaching and research office of the Chinese Armed Police Xinjiang Regional General Corps training base.

During the week-long drill, the soldiers went through several kinds of training including fast boarding and exiting the helicopter, descend skills, searching and eliminating terrorists' camp, and on-ground firing in different weather conditions, at different time and in different terrains.

The drill has contributed to promoting the helicopter airborne force and the overall combat capacity of the special forces units.
