The death toll from an animation studio fire in Kyoto, Japan on Thursday has risen to 33, local police and rescuers said.

The local fire department said 36 others have been injured, 10 of them critically, in the blaze that sent people desperately scrambling up the stairs toward the roof of the three-story building of the Kyoto Animation Co.

The blaze, ignited by a 41-year-old man with flammable liquid, is believed to be the country's worst case of arson in decades.

About 70 people were working in the studio when the fire started.

Witnesses said that they saw victims who were badly bleeding were rushed to hospital in the incident that took place at around 10:35 local time in the city's Fushimi Ward Thursday morning.

Police said the largest number of victims were found on the top floor of the three-story building, including some who had collapsed on the stairs leading to the roof.

The fire caused an explosion that shattered all the windows on the second and third floors.

More than 30 fire engines were deployed to the scene.

The firefighters managed to contain the fire around 15:20 local time, about five hours after it started.

"We sent out a quick report that the building had burned down. This is what has been learned from the investigation at the moment. The building, about 691 square meters, was completely destroyed," said a Kyoto fireman.

The suspect is also being treated in hospital for injuries sustained during the fire and has been taken into custody, investigators said. His motives are yet to be determined.

Le bilan de l'incendie dans un studio d'animation jeudi à Kyoto, au Japon, s'est alourdi à 33 morts, a confirmé la police locale.

Parmi les 70 personnes présentes au moment de l’incendie, 36 ont été blessées, dont dix dans un état critique, selon les pompiers.

Le feu, déclenché par un homme de 41 ans avec un liquide inflammable, serait le plus grave incendie criminel dans le pays depuis des décennies.

Des témoins ont affirmé avoir vu des rescapés ensanglantés être évacués à l'hôpital à la suite de l'incident, qui s'est produit vers 10 h 35 (heure locale) dans le quartier de Fushimi. Les flammes ont également provoqué une explosion qui a soufflé toutes les fenêtres des deuxième et troisième étages.

Une trentaine de camions de pompiers ont été déployés sur les lieux. Les secouristes ont réussi à contenir les flammes vers 15 h 20. "Le bâtiment, d'une superficie d'environ 691 mètres carrés, a été complètement détruit", a fait savoir un pompier sur place.

L'incendiaire, lui aussi blessé, a été hospitalisé sous surveillance policière, ont précisé les enquêteurs.

قالت الشرطة المحلية ورجال الانقاذ إن عدد قتلى حريق أستوديو للرسوم المتحركة في كيوتو باليابان يوم الخميس/ 18 يوليو الجاري ارتفع الى 33 شخصا.

وقالت إدارة الإطفاء المحلية إن 36 آخرين قد أصيبوا في الحريق، 10 منهم في حالة حرجة، حيث اندفع الناس بفزع وهربوا نحو سطح مبنى من ثلاثة طوابق لشركة كيوتو للرسوم المتحركة.

ويُعتقد أن الحريق، الذي أشعله رجل يبلغ من العمر 41 عامًا بسائل قابل للاشتعال، هو أسوأ حالة إحراق متعمد في البلاد منذ عقود.

وكان حوالي 70 شخصًا يعملون في الاستوديو عندما اندلع الحريق.

وقال شهود عيان إنهم رأوا الضحايا الذين كانوا ينزفون بشدة وقد نُقلوا إلى المستشفى جراء الحادث الذي وقع في حوالي الساعة 10:35 صباح الخميس بالتوقيت المحلي في فوشيمي وارد بالمدينة.

La cifra de muertos por un incendio ocurrido el pasado jueves en un estudio de animación en Kioto, Japón, se ha elevado a 33, según anunciaron la policía y los equipos de rescate locales.

El incidente tuvo lugar alrededor de las 10:35 horas locales en el distrito de Fushimi. El departamento de bomberos local informó también que otras 36 personas han resultado heridas. Diez de ellas se encuentran en estado crítico.

Se cree que el siniestro, supuestamente provocado por un hombre de 41 años con un líquido inflamable, es el peor caso de incendio intencional del país en décadas.

Cerca de 70 personas trabajaban en el estudio cuando estalló el fuego. Los testigos indicaron ver a los heridos sangrar gravemente antes de ser trasladados al hospital.

　京都市伏見区にある「京都アニメーション」のスタジオが男に放火された事件で33人が死亡したと、地元の警察と救助者から明らかにされた。

　地元の消防隊によると、36人が重軽傷を負い、そのうちの10人は、炎のなかで3階建ての建物の屋根に向かって必死に階段を上っていたという。

　41歳の男性が可燃性の液体で引火した今回の火災は、日本では、ここ数十年間、最悪の放火事件とされている。

　火事が始まったとき、約70人がスタジオで働いていた。

　目撃者は、現地時間の18日の午前10時35分ごろ、火事で出血のひどい被害者が急いで病院に搬送されるのを目撃したと述べた。

　警察は、3階建ての建物の最上階で最も多くの被害者が見つかったという。

　火事は2階と3階のすべての窓を粉砕した爆発を引き起こした。

　30台以上の消防車が現場に配備された。

　消防隊員による消火活動は約5時間続いて、現地時間の午後3:20前後鎮火した。
