Protesters created chaos at the Hong Kong International Airport for the second day on Tuesday, causing cancellations of most outbound flights at one of the busiest airports in the world.
All check-in services for departure flights were suspended from 16:30, the Airport Authority Hong Kong said in a statement on Tuesday after protesters occupied the airport terminal and prevented passengers from departing.
Footage aired by a local broadcaster showed some protesters grabbed passengers' arms, preventing them from passing through checkpoints.
Two people were injured during the escalated violent protests, including a tourist who had being knocked out and beaten up by protesters and a journalist from Beijing-based newspaper Global Times who's hands were tied to a luggage car and had lasers pointed directly at his eyes.
The demonstrators also tried to stop paramedics from reaching the injured people.
Global Times newspaper has responded to the attack by protesters against its reporter. Its editor-in-chief Hu Xijin wrote on Twitter that he denounced the violence against the journalist, and advised all reporters in Hong Kong to be careful.
