Storyline

China's economic performance remained within a reasonable range, making stable growth in July, said the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Wednesday.

"In general, China's economic growth remained within a reasonable range and maintained the overall momentum of stable development in July," Liu Aihua, a spokeswoman with the NBS said during a press conference.

According to data released by the NBS, China's value-added industrial output, an important economic indicator, expanded 4.8 percent year on year in July,

Industrial output, officially called industrial value added, is used to measure the activity of designated large enterprises with annual turnover of at least 20 million yuan (about 2.8 million U.S. dollars).

Meanwhile, the high-tech manufacturing industry maintained fast expansion, with its output increasing 6.6 percent last month.

As for the consumption, the total retail sales of consumer goods increased 7.6 percent year on year. And from January to July, the national online retail sales saw a year-on-year increase of 16.8 percent.

In the first seven months this year, China's fixed-asset investment also maintained stable growth, expanding 5.7 percent from one year earlier. Specifically, the investment in manufacturing and high-tech industries demonstrated a strong momentum of growth.

As for the employment, a total of 8.67 million jobs were created in the first seven months, fulfilling nearly 80 percent of the whole year's task.
