A survey released by the Hong Kong Tourism Board on Monday shows that the number of tourist groups coming to China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) has plummeted more than 70 percent since June, which resulted in a 75 percent drop in tourism revenue.
Visitor arrivals to Hong Kong totaled around 5.14 million in June, dropping by about 770,000 from the figure in May, according to the board.
Weeks of protests and violent incidents have dented Hong Kong's tourism, one of the major pillars of Hong Kong's economy.
Tourism contributes around 5 percent to the Hong Kong's economy and a large majority of Hong Kong's visitors come from China's mainland. Research data shows that mainlanders made 27 million visits to the SAR in the first six months of this year.
Many countries, including the U.S., Australia, the UK, and Japan, have issued warnings for their citizens traveling to Hong Kong.
