"Despite the mounting economic downward pressure at home and the grave external environment, we are still seeing growth in modern service industries and high-tech manufacturing. At the same time, the growth of foreign trade expanded, especially in the growth of exports. Our trade structure continued to be optimized."

Downward pressure in Chinese economic growth has been shown in the latest data released by China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Wednesday.
While Chinese economy continues to perform within a reasonable range and still sustains its growth momentum, the production index of the service sector in July increased by 6.3 percent year on year, 0.8 percentage points lower than the previous month.
The industrial production witnessed slowness as the total value added of industrial enterprises above the designated size grew by 4.8 percent year on year in July, 1.5 percentage points lower than last month.
Growth rate for total retail sales of consumer goods was 7.6 percent year on year, with a 2.2-percentage-point drop from the June's figure.
However, the country's foreign trade reported a 5.7-percent year-on-year growth, 2.6 percentage points higher than that of last month.
Liu Aihua, spokeswoman of the NBS, explained the overall trend at a press conference.
"Despite the mounting economic downward pressure at home and the grave external environment, we are still seeing growth in modern service industries and high-tech manufacturing. At the same time, the growth of foreign trade expanded, especially in the growth of exports. Our trade structure continued to be optimized," said Liu.
