"We have noticed that over 50 percent of group tourists from across the world to Hong Kong have canceled their trips and we can see, individual travelers have downed over 30 percent. This is just the statistics of August. There is no new orders from September onwards. The tourism industry and the related industries including hotel, retail and food industries are all greatly influenced."

"What happened at the airport a few days ago has really hurt our compatriots’ hearts and the conscience of Hong Kong. Those people could not represent us. Yesterday I visited some of my friends who engaged catering business, and they told me their business volume was down by half. About 80 percent of our tour guides have not earned a penny for two months."

"Due to flights cancellations on the 12th and 13th, 32 shipments of airfreight of our company have been influenced, which is only a tip of the iceberg of airfreight loss in Hong Kong. The concerted efforts made by our whole industry in Hong Kong over the past few decades are wasted in one day, and it’s not easy to have them recovered. The loss is an enormous figure and cannot be estimated by even experts. The trouble makers, or the plotters behind the scene or those in the front, their acts are sin and it's really sinful to have all the Hong Kong people pay for the price of what you have done."

Storyline

Hong Kong tourism insiders have called for a restoration of order in the special administrative region as the local tourism industry has been dealt a heavy blow due to the months-long riots.

The Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong in alliance with many Hong Kong tourism groups Wednesday issued a statement, expressing regret for those acts that tarnish Hong Kong and its tourism industry's image.

The statement strongly condemned the violent attacks on passengers at the Hong Kong International Airport and considered it absolutely unacceptable.

"The whole tourism industry is shocked that violent acts were taken against our tourists. In line with many chambers of commerce of tourism industry in Hong Kong, we seriously condemn the violent acts towards tourists and hope our international airport can resume normal operation as soon as possible," said Jason Wong, chairman of the Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong.

According to the council's statistics, the continuous illegal and violent acts have resulted in a sharp decrease in arrivals to Hong Kong, dealing a heavy blow to the city's tourism industry and related industries.

"We have noticed that over 50 percent of group tourists from across the world to Hong Kong have canceled their trips and we can see, individual travelers have downed over 30 percent. This is just the statistics of August. There is no new orders from September onwards. The tourism industry and the related industries including hotel, retail and food industries are all greatly influenced," said Wong.

"What happened at the airport a few days ago has really hurt our compatriots’ hearts and the conscience of Hong Kong. Those people could not represent us. Yesterday I visited some of my friends who engaged catering business, and they told me their business volume was down by half. About 80 percent of our tour guides have not earned a penny for two months," said Yeh Chi-wai, an insider of Hong Kong's tourism industry.

The cancellations of flights also severely affected Hong Kong's aviation logistics. Industry insiders pointed out that while the short-term economic losses are calculable, the long-term negative impact is immeasurable.

The trouble makers, or the plotters behind the scene or those in the front, their acts are sin and it's really sinful to have all the Hong Kong people pay for the price of what you have done," said Prof. William So, managing director of Risetech Shipping International Limited.
