At least 40 people were killed and more than 100 others were injured after an explosion ripped through a wedding hall in the Afghan capital of Kabul on Saturday night, according to a local news agency.

The blast happened inside Shahr-e-Dubai wedding hall in Police District 6 of Kabul at around 22:40 local time Saturday.

No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the incident so far.

Kabul, with a population of nearly 5 million, has been hit by a series of attacks over the past few years.

At least 14 people were killed and 145 others wounded in a blast after a militant rammed his explosive-laden vehicle into the front gate of district police station in Police District 6 on Aug 7.
