Visiting Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said on Wednesday that Kazakhstan and China are both close neighbors and comprehensive strategic partners and will start broad prospect for cooperation so as to bring tangible benefits to the people of the two countries.
Delivering a speech at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Tokayev said China and Kazakhstan have signed over 250 inter-governmental and inter-departmental agreements since the two countries established diplomatic ties 27 years ago. Their relationship has set a model for state-to-state relations, he said.
China is one of the main trade and investment partners of Kazakhstan. Within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, Kazakhstan is interested in exporting organic and environment-friendly agricultural products to the Chinese market and actively promoting cooperation in oil, natural gas, nuclear energy, mining and petrochemicals between the two countries, the Kazakh president said.
China is well-known for its world-class research and development technologies in digitization, 5G, big data, Internet of Things and artificial intelligence. So far, 15 China-Kazakhstan cooperation projects worth 4 billion U.S. dollars have been started, said Tokayev.
The Kazakh president said the international situation is undergoing profound and complex changes, regional conflict is growing, terrorism is picking up and global confrontation is intensifying, noting China is always a reliable partner of Kazakhstan in the international arena. He lauded the Shanghai Cooperation Organization that covers 60 percent of the Eurasian continent for its role in safeguarding regional security. Kazakhstan will enhance cooperation with China within the framework of the United Nations and work with China to boost prosperity in Eurasia, he said.
Tokayev is on a state visit to China from Tuesday to Thursday. It is his first state visit to China after he was sworn in as Kazakh president on March 20, 2019.
