A speech made by a representative of the Hong Kong Federation of Women at the United Nations Human Rights Council meeting on Wednesday won support from many foreign diplomats, who called on Hong Kong society to settle problems rationally and expected the special administrative region to restore peace as soon as possible.
Pansy Ho Chiu-king, chairwoman of the federation, delivered the speech on Wednesday at the 42nd session of the Human Rights Council scheduled for September 9 to 27 at the Palais des Nations, in Geneva, condemning the violent acts of some demonstrators in Hong Kong since June 9.
Ho said in the speech that in the 95 days beginning from June 9, Hong Kong people were plagued with 130 protests in which at least 110 were violent and illegal, forcing hundreds of small businesses to close down and depriving many workers of jobs. She called for an end to the violence in Hong Kong.
Representatives from Myanmar and Russia respectively expressed their agreement with Ho and their support for her speech.
