"China yesterday lodged solemn representations with the U.S. side on the inclusion of 28 Chinese entities in the U.S. list of export control under the pretext of the so-called 'human rights problem in Xinjiang'. I would like to stress once again that Xinjiang affairs are purely China's internal affairs and no foreign country has the right to interfere. There is no such thing as the so-called 'human rights problem' in Xinjiang as alleged by the United States. No matter what excuse the United States uses to impose restrictions on Chinese entities and personnel on issues related to Xinjiang, it seriously violates the basic norms governing international relations, and seriously interferes in China's internal affairs. China firmly opposes it."

5. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Geng Shuang, spokesman, Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
"The United States has totally ignored facts and wantonly smeared China by using the Xinjiang issue and deliberately created pretext for interfering in China's internal affairs, obstructed Xinjiang's anti-terror efforts and tried to hold up China's stable development. By doing so, it can only make the Chinese people and the international community understand more clearly the evil intentions of the United States. Its nasty tricks will in no way shake the firm will of the Chinese government and people in safeguarding national sovereignty and security and maintaining the social development and stability. It's totally futile."

7. SOUNDBITE (Chinese) Geng Shuang, spokesman, Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
"We urge the U.S. to immediately mend its ways and revoke the relevant decisions and stop interfering in China's internal affairs. China will continue taking resolute and effective measures to firmly safeguard its state sovereignty, security and development interests."

Storyline

China firmly opposes the United States for enlisting 28 Chinese entities in its "Entity List" on the pretext about Xinjiang and urges the U.S. side to remove them from the list as soon as possible, said a foreign ministry spokesman on Wednesday in Beijing.

The spokesman, Geng Shuang, made the statement at a regular media briefing when asked about the event.

Geng said: "China yesterday lodged solemn representations with the U.S. side on the inclusion of 28 Chinese entities in the U.S. list of export control under the pretext of the so-called 'human rights problem in Xinjiang'. I would like to stress once again that Xinjiang affairs are purely China's internal affairs and no foreign country has the right to interfere. No matter what excuse the United States uses to impose restrictions on Chinese entities and personnel on issues related to Xinjiang, it seriously violates the basic norms governing international relations, and seriously interferes in China's internal affairs. China firmly opposes it."

The spokesman said it must be pointed out that by taking the anti-terror and de-extremism measures, Xinjinag aims to prevent the breeding of extremism and terrorism at the source. These measures fully accord with the Chinese law and the common international practice. These measures have won extensive support from the 25 million people of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang, and have made positive contributions to the international fight against terrorism.

Geng said: "The United States has totally ignored facts and wantonly smeared China by using the Xinjiang issue and deliberately created pretext for interfering in China's internal affairs, obstructed Xinjiang's anti-terror efforts and tried to hold up China's stable development. By doing so, it can only make the Chinese people and the international community understand more clearly the evil intentions of the United States. "We urge the U.S. to immediately mend its ways and revoke the relevant decisions and stop interfering in China's internal affairs. China will continue taking resolute and effective measures to firmly safeguard its state sovereignty, security and development interests," said Geng.
