Storyline

Nepali media workers and people were inspired by Chinese president Xi Jinping's signed article, hoping Xi's visit to Nepal further improve bilateral tie between the two countries.

Xi's signed article "Toward Greater Progress of China-Nepal Friendship Across the Himalayas" was published in three Nepalese newspapers, namely Gorkhapatra, The Rising Nepal and Kantipur Daily, ahead of his arrival on Saturday.

Sudheer Sharma, chief editor of Kantipur Daily said in an interview with China Central Television that all walks of life in Nepal welcomed Xi's visit because Nepali people regarded Chinese people as good friends and neighbors, just as what President Xi pointed out in the article that "China and Nepal are linked by the same mountains and rivers and enjoy a long-standing friendship".

"Actually Nepali people and Nepal country as a whole was expecting Chinese president here since long. And this visit is coming after since 23 years, so a lot of expectations here," said Sharma.

Gorkhapatra Daily is the oldest Nepali language newspaper which was founded in 1901. Its chief editor said it is the first time over 100 years to publish a foreign leader's signed article on the top of front page.

"We expected so long to publish Chinese president and also the general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, Xi Jinping's signed article in Nepal. The signed article published on Oct 11 is of extraordinary historical significance," said Shree Om Shrestha, chief editor of Gorkhapatra Daily.

Xi’s signed article inspired Nepali people to commit on development, marking a historic moment for the whole nation, according to The Rising Nepal, the first English daily in the country, which also published Xi's signed article on front page.

"As I know, Xi Jinping is just not the president of the People's Republic of China, he is a global leader. In Xi Jinping's articles, to me and to the public, these articles in fact the happiest moment for me, not only for me, to the people, to the government of Nepal. When people see these articles by Xi Jinping, that will be a historic moment for us," said Gopal Khanal, consulting editor of The Rising Nepal.

"It inspires. The story inspires everyone in fact, not just nations. It should inspire individuals to do the hard work, to commit to making progress and then really acting on the commitment," said Jagadish Pokhrel, chief editor of The Rising Nepal.

After reading Chinese president Xi's signed article on newspaper, residents in Kathmandu were touched by the long-last friendship of the two sides and cordially welcomed his visit in Nepal.

"I hope to have a really good relation with Nepal and China. And I also like the article which says we will have a very good relation. And our president is also welcoming him for the first time. And I hope he likes Nepal and Nepali people. Nepali people are heartily welcoming to him," said Bcash Timalsina, a Kathmandu resident.

"Actually we'd like to welcome Xi Jinping, the president of China. And everyone, all the Nepalese people, they are really welcoming and really excited about his visit to Nepal," said Sagar Pratap Khadka, another Kathmandu resident.
