Saudi Arabia and Russia expect to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation in light of Russian President Vladimir Putin's recent visit to Saudi Arabia, said a Saudi Arabian senior editor on Monday in Riyadh.

Hani Wafaa, deputy editor-in-chief of Riyadh Newspaper, made the remarks in the wake of the two heads of state signing key agreements in different sectors on Monday.

In talks on Monday, Putin and Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud exchanged views of cooperation in many fields and attended the signing ceremony of 20 bilateral agreements and memorandums worth of nearly 10 billion U.S. dollars involving energy, communication, military and aerospace.

"Saudi Arabia and Russia hoped to enhance the two countries' relations, especially investments in bilateral cooperation programs. Both sides having signed multiple agreements and memorandum explains the expectations. Moreover, the two countries have gradually reached similar consensus in politics," he said.

It has been 12 years since Putin's last visit to Saudi Arabia.
