Chinese companies have purchased agricultural products from the United States according to domestic market demands this year, and will speed up purchasing agricultural products from the U.S., Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Geng Shuang said in Beijing on Monday.

At a press conference, Geng introduced the situation of China purchasing agricultural products from the United States.

"In these two days, many media outlets ask us about the situation of China purchasing agricultural products from the United States. We have consulted relevant departments on this matter. According to my knowledge, Chinese companies voluntarily purchased agricultural products from the U.S. in a market-oriented approach according to the domestic market demands," said Geng.

Geng also listed the amount of purchases Chinese companies have made this year.

"According to preliminary information, this year Chinese companies voluntarily purchased 20 million tons of soybeans, 700,000 tons of pork, 700,000 tons of sorghum, 230,000 tons of wheat and 320,000 tons of cotton from the U.S.. China will speed up purchasing agricultural products from the U.S.," said Geng.
