Lawmakers in China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) have resumed meetings Wednesday morning after legislative sessions have been suspended for more than three months.
The radical protesters' vandalism of the Hong Kong Legislative Council (LegCo) complex forced the lawmakers' regular gatherings to be put on hold since July.
But now the Legislative Council has reopened, allowing lawmakers to debate and pass bills for a new ordinary session.
Under the Basic Law, the Legislative Council is mainly responsible for enacting laws, examining public expenditure and monitoring the work of the region's government.
The Sixth Legislative Council of Hong Kong is composed of 70 seats.
Half of the members are directly elected by voters in geographical constituencies and the remaining 35 members are chosen by functional constituencies.
There are 31 items of subsidiary legislation and 14 other papers are on the table for the Council to discuss, covering areas including healthcare, tourism and public facilities.
