Storyline


Global medical companies are displaying their latest cutting-edge products designed to meet various healthcare needs at the ongoing second China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai.

The huge exhibition space for medical equipment and healthcare products has gathered a number of leading medical and healthcare manufacturers from around the world, of which more than 60 are Fortune Global 500 companies, the second edition of the expo seeing a 10 percent increased compared to last year.

Many of the products being exhibited focus on the most pressing health issues, offering a number of high-tech solutions. For example, Varian Medical Systems, a major U.S. company in the field of radiotherapy, has brought an intelligent medical system based on developing internet and 5G technology. With a promotional slogan of "not afraid of cancer", the product is aimed at providing patients with a full treatment plan to tackle diseases head-on.

Meanwhile, Swedish medical equipment producer Elekta is showing its latest medical equipment which combines the functions of nuclear magnetic resonance and an accelerator and can conduct real-time monitoring to track the movement of cancer cells while administering treatment at the same time.

Medtronic, a global medical equipment development company, has established a simulated operating room for spinal operations, where visitors can experience the company's image-guided surgery products and see how they are applied in this crucial medical practice.

This year's expo, which will conclude on Sunday, has also set up a special area for showcasing an abundance of top healthcare products, where visitors can try some samples the various booths.

The expo is also displaying many other newly-developed medicines and medical devices, including a biological agent for curing the autoimmune disease lupus instead of relying on traditional hormonotherapy, and the world's thinnest insulin needle with a tip diameter of just 0.18 millimeters.
