An experts' forum and a leading group meeting on pushing forward comprehensive reform and opening-up of China's southern island province of Hainan were held in Haikou respectively on Friday and Saturday.
Chinese Vice Premier Han Zheng, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and head of a leading group overseeing Hainan's reform, chaired the meetings.
The meetings discussed policies and institutional systems for building a free trade port in Hainan, and arranged the work for the next stage.
Han urged to grant Hainan more autonomy to its reform and speed up the fostering of a new system for open economy.
He stressed the need for focusing on trade and investment freedom in making policies and institutional systems.
Han also called for efforts to consolidate the foundation of the island's real economy and enhance its manufacturing competitiveness by using its unique ecological advantages, set up a multi-functional free trade accounting system, and boost flows of people, commodity and data.
Chinese President Xi Jinping announced the decision to develop Hainan into a pilot free trade zone last April.
