1. Chinese people holding up Chinese national flags, flags of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), slogans to call for end of violence in Hong Kong
2. SOUNDBITE (English) George Pippas, former mayor of Cambridge (partially overlaid by shots 3-4):
"Being a politician for a long time, I love the Chinese people, I love all the Chinese people. But I'm also impartial. I can actually see both sides of the fence, I can see what's going on, and I can make an informed decision. I agree with you that he [the Chinese government] has to be firm. If you have a house with 10 children and one child is naughty, you have to be firm with that child. And at this point in time, Hong Kong has been misbehaving, I think. The government has to be strong, and it has every right to be strong. And I think also your police has been very tolerant. The parent has been tolerant, tolerant, tolerant, but sometimes if it goes out of -- if it becomes very naughty, the parents have to say: OK, enough is enough."

6. SOUNDBITE (English) George Pippas, former mayor of Cambridge (partially overlaid by shot 7):
"If I have a problem with my own family at home, I don't want my neighbors to really jump in to my house and interfere with me. And it's a sovereign country, it's an independent country, it has every right to deal with its own fairs. You are a part of a bigger family, you are a part of China. The Chinese government offers you all the opportunities that you can think of: good education, if you want to become a successful business person, you can do that. You do not need violence."

Storyline

The violent acts happening in Hong Kong over the past few months are not acceptable, and the Chinese government has every right to end such violence, said a United Kingdom councilor supporting China's position on the situation of Hong Kong on Saturday.

George Pippas, the former mayor of Cambridge, said during an interview with China Global Television Network (CGTN) that what happened in Hong Kong has already crossed the line, and it is time now for the Chinese government to deal with the situation and end the chaos caused by violence.

"Being a politician for a long time, I love the Chinese people, I love all the Chinese people. But I'm also impartial. I can actually see both sides of the fence, I can see what's going on, and I can make an informed decision. I agree with you that he [the Chinese government] has to be firm. The parent has been tolerant, tolerant, tolerant, but sometimes if it goes out of -- if it becomes very naughty, the parents have to say: OK, enough is enough," he said.

Hong Kong is a part of China, Pippas said, stressing that any other third party should not interfere in China's internal affairs.

You do not need violence," he said.
