Six East Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM) terrorists were successfully subdued by joint efforts of crew and passengers on a Chinese flight en route from Hotan to Urumqi in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in 2012.
ETIM extremists attempted to ignite explosives on the plane like the 911 terrorist attacks on the United States in 2001. Crew and passengers eventually managed to gain control of the six terrorists.
"My first reaction was I had to do something. If I could hold them up, there would be others to help control them. We would have a chance to survive. If I sat there and did nothing, something was sure to go wrong," said Dilshat Hesen, a passenger.
The ETIM was founded in 1997 and designated as a terrorist organization by the United Nations in 2002. For decades, the group which has close links with international terrorist organizations has perpetrated countless terrorist attacks aiming to separate the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region from China.
The movement has attempted to recruit people on a massive scale, spreading a radical ideology that continues to cause chaos in many countries around the world.
The China Global Television Network (CGTN) on Friday aired the second volume of Xinjiang-related documentary "The Black Hand - ETIM and Terrorism in Xinjiang."
This is a follow-up of the first volume, entitled "Fighting Terrorism in Xinjiang."
This volume tells stories about how to dig out the "black hand" and manipulators of the terrorist attacks in Xinjiang.
