The 2019 Macao International Parade kicked off on Sunday in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland.

The festivities began on Sunday afternoon with an opening ceremony at the Ruins of St. Paul's, with the parade making its way through some of Macao's busy streets and avenues, all the way to Sai Van Lake Square.

This year's event gathered over 1,800 performers of more than 80 performance troupes from the countries and regions along the Belt and Road, offering a public feast of singing, dancing and acrobatics performance as well as magic shows.

"Yeah about this kind of celebration I feel very good. Because it's very well I see many people here. It makes me feel very good," said a parade performer from Guinea-Bissau.

"It's perfect, fantastic. It's really nice. We enjoy it a lot! It's a good place. We had never been in Macao. We find it's a really nice place. We think we'll come back another year," said Janine, a French tourist.

Under the theme of "love, peace and cultural integration", the parade offered a cultural feast for all the spectators. At such a special occasion of the 20th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland, many local performance groups incorporated patriotic elements to their costumes and performances.

"This year is the 70th anniversary of the founding of the New China. We also want to present a better look as opera performers to mark the great occasion. I wish Macao prosperity and that the motherland can give us more support. Macao's future will surely be better," said Au Wing Ha, a performer at Macao Aroma Cantonese Opera Troupe.

"We are very excited because this year is the 70th anniversary of the founding of our New China and also the 20th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland. We are so happy to participate in the festivities including the parade, sharing our joy and welcoming everyone," said a director of a local performance troupe.
