Storyline

A recent temperature drop and snowy weather have created layers of snow and rime on urban areas, tree branches and mountains in some areas of north China, turning those areas into a scenic world of ice and snow.

Among the areas is Ejina Banner of Inner Mongolia which has recently experienced the first snow in 2020. The urban areas and populus diversifolia trees of Ejina Banner have presented amazing scenes brought by snow and rime since Monday.

The rare and wonderful rime scenes have attracted some locals and tourists to enjoy them.

"I am very excited and happy to see the scenic rime-covered populus diversifolia trees because I can come here to record this wonderful and rare natural phenomenon," said Wang Zhengtao, a tourist from east China's Shandong province.

Rime ice, a rare natural wonder, forms when supercooled water liquid droplets freeze onto surfaces.

Ejina Banner reportedly has not seen rime ice for four years.
