China's economy grew 6.1 percent in 2019, within the annual target of 6 percent to 6.5 percent, the National Bureau of Statistics said on Friday.

"The national economy operated steadily in general, with the quality rising, and the major anticipated targets were met successfully, laying a solid foundation for completing the building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects," Ning Jizhe, head of the National Bureau of Statistics, told reporters at a press conference in Beijing.

Ning said: "preliminary accounting shows that the GDP in 2019 was 99.0865 trillion yuan, 6.1 percent more than in 2019 calculated according to comparable prices, meeting the anticipated target of 6 percent to 6.5 percent. the quarterly-specific figures show that it grew 6.4 percent in the first quarter, 6.2 percent in the second, 6.0 in the third and 6.0 in the fourth.
