Chinese President Xi Jinping's recent visit has injected fresh impetus to the Paukphaw friendship between China and Myanmar in the new era, according to a commentary published by the China Media Group (CMG) on Saturday.
"Paukphaw" has been a buzzword in Myanmar amid President Xi's state visit to the country on Friday and Saturday.
The key points of the CMG commentary are as follows:
The special "Paukphaw" (fraternal) friendship comes from the over 1,000 years of history of friendly exchanges, from the sharing of weal and woe while fighting against colonialism and imperialism in the last century, and from the high-level mutual political trusts, in-depth cooperation on economy and close coordination on international and regional issues over the past 70 years since the establishment of China-Myanmar diplomatic relations.
The three messages sent by President Xi while meeting with Myanmar President U Win Myint have injected fresh impetus to the China-Myanmar relations in the new era.
First, the Chinese government and Chinese people firmly support the government and people of Myanmar to adopt a development path that is in line with its national conditions and to maintain the momentum of its national development.
Second, the China-Myanmar Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership is based on a solid foundation, and the joint efforts of the two sides on building China-Myanmar Community with a Shared Future will inject new drivers and vitality to the development of the bilateral ties.
Third, China is willing to actively promote practical cooperation with Myanmar, build stronger synergy between China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) with the development strategies of Myanmar, to achieve more fruitful results from the mutual-beneficial bilateral cooperation, and bring greater benefits to the two peoples.
President Xi stressed while meeting with officials of Myanmar that China never imposes its will on others or interferes in the internal affairs of others while promoting cooperation with other countries, nor does it engage in zero-sum games or unilateralism. It shows that China always pursues harmonious and win-win cooperative values on its external exchanges.
This is also why President U Win Myint said that China has provided "selfless help" to the economic and social development of Myanmar, and therefore, Myanmar firmly adheres to the one-China principle, respects the "one country, two systems" principle China has implemented in Hong Kong and Macao.
Myanmar has always recognized Taiwan as an inalienable part of China's territory, and is willing to actively build a community with a shared future together with China.
