China's state media, the China Media Group (CMG) staged and broadcast the annual Spring Festival gala on the Chinese Lunar New Year's eve on Friday, bringing television audience new viewing experiences by using 5G, virtual reality and higher-definition display technologies.
Viewers were also able to watch the performances via CMG's flagship short-video mobile app.
The performance was also broadcast worldwide by more than 500 media platforms.
Like previous years, the 2020 gala featured multiple hosting venues, with Beijing as the main venue, and Zhengzhou City in central China's Henan Province and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area as two sub venues.
This year's gala focused on topics such as the Chinese people's solidarity and determination in fighting against the epidemic of a coronavirus-related pneumonia, China's confidence to win its anti-poverty battle, and the sharing of a prosperous society in all respects with all.
The gala, which ran for more than four hours, featured pop songs, crosstalk and sketch comedies, as well as other art forms, all of which mirrored trending stories of common Chinese people over the past year.
The Spring Festival Gala, usually abbreviated in Chinese as Chunwan, is the most-watched live TV program in China. Since 1983, most people in China watch the show with their families on the eve of the Spring Festival.
