Storyline


A video footage taken by China Central Television (CCTV) on Sunday showed a novel coronavirus-infected medic gestured "OK" from an isolation ward in Wuhan Union Hospital, central China Hubei Province, optimistic about overcoming the virus.

Of 115 patients who are being treated in the hospital, 14 are medical workers who were unfortunately sickened while combating against the epidemic outbreak.

A CCTV coverage team was allowed to enter the isolation area on Sunday, offering the general public an insight of forefront of the fight against the epidemic.

Before stepping into the isolation area, the reporter was required to strictly take protective measures, wearing equipment from protective jump suit, face mask, goggles, to shoe covers and gloves.

One of the infected-medical workers is Zhang Changsheng who was infected with the novel coronavirus in frequently contacting with infected patients and overwhelmed by heavy workload.

Medics check them from time to time through video link to ensure he is in good condition.

According to Zhang, the ward has two beds with his co-workers who has similar light symptom living together, and is equipped with an air disinfectant machine running for a full 24 hours per day.

He said his family has been aware of his condition, solacing people with confidence of beating the disease.

As of 24:00 Saturday, the epidemic has claimed 56 lives, while 49 patients have been cured and discharged from hospital, according to the National Health Commission (NHC).

By far, a total of 1,975 confirmed cases of pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) have been reported, of which 324 were critical cases.

Teams of medical workers from hospitals nationwide has embarked their journey to Hubei Province, the center of the epidemic, joining the combat against the novel coronavirus.
