Plan had been made to convert three existing venues, including a gymnasium and an exhibition center, into hospitals to receive patients infected with the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in central China's Wuhan City, the headquarters for the epidemic control said late Monday.
The Hongshan Gymnasium, Wuhan International Conference and Exhibition Center (WICEC) and a cultural building complex called "Wuhan Livingroom" will be turned into temporary hospitals, according to the headquarters.
The sites are located in the districts of Jianghan, Wuchang and Dongxihu.
According to a on-site visit of reporter with China Central Television (CCTV) on Tuesday, the WICEC-converted hospital at Jianghan District is now under construction. When it is completed, the temporary hospital at WICEC will have four medical units and be equipped with 1,800 beds.
WICEC-converted hospital is opposite to Wuhan Union Hospital, according to CCTV reporter.
The city had previously planned two new hospitals, Huoshenshan and Leishenshan, with 2,600 beds in total for the treatment of the patients infected with the virus. Huoshenshan has been put into operation, and Leishenshan is under construction.
