Storyline

The first group of patients infected with the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) have been transferred to the newly-built Huoshenshan Hospital in Wuhan on Tuesday.

Ten ambulances transported the patients to the hospital at about 9:30, who were previously being treated at three different hospitals in the city.

There are 1,000 beds in the Huoshenshan hospital, with 19 inpatient wards -- including wards for patients in critical conditions.

The hospital was completed on Sunday after a 10-day construction, after which the military medical team took over its operation.

In the wards, the medical workers have well prepared to treat patients, who will stay there until they recover.

Zhang Zhiyuan, a doctor in the hospital who had just received his first patient, told the reporter :"with the strong support of our country and people, and with such abundant supplies, I'm confident to provide good treatment for the patients and we will strive to help them recover as soon as possible".

The military medical team has prepared for several days before receiving patients today.

"We worked overtime in last two days to clean up the wards. Now the admission process is very smooth overall, because we have enough medical forces. The military doctors are conducting physical examination to complete the patient's medical records, and the nurses are ready to treat the patients," said Ma Zhuang, a doctor.

At the same time, the hospital will also arrange more than 10 experts on infectious diseases, respiratory and critical care to discuss the treatment for the severe cases.

In addition, the hospital has conducted environmental detection in accordance with the national standards since Monday and the external safeguards are gradually improved.

The workers monitored the room static pressure difference, air flow direction in different areas, air purity as well as air supply, exhaust volume and so on in the wards.

"I'm measuring the static pressure difference in the room, which is generally called the pressure gradient. And it's a very important indicator for the safety of our negative-pressure wards. Through this data we can make sure that the wind outside is blowing into our ward, so we can keep the infection source in the room and prevent its spreading," said a worker in ward.

The disease control and prevention department of Hubei Province will continue conducting dynamic monitoring of the internal and external environment of the hospital to provide accurate data and ensure public health security.

A gas station next to the hospital has been designated to provide free service for all ambulances from Feb. 3 to 9.
