Operations are continuing smoothly at a temporary medical facility set up in central China's Wuhan International Exhibition Center, where more than 1,000 patients suffering from mild coronavirus symptoms have been received as of Saturday.

The converted convention center, which has been specially designed to treat patients with mild symptoms caused by the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), is able to hold up to 1,800 patients, and has been operated around the clock since receiving its first batch of patients on Wednesday night.

Staff members of the local public security bureau, city management officials and personnel from other related departments can be seen working around the temporary hospital.

Outside the exhibition center, temporary tents are being set up, which function as various hospital departments where doctors are working. The interior of the center serves as the inpatient department, where patients are being treated.

Plastic blue barriers have been erected with manned checkpoints at the entry to the facility, helping separate the channels of patients and supplies so as to prevent possible cross-infection occurring.

If a patient's condition is deemed to be critical, they will be promptly transferred to other medical centers to undergo more rigorous treatment.

The Union Hospital affiliated to the Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology has introduced a psychological counseling mechanism in the temporary hospital. A team of experts are stationed in the hospital, and have set up a broadcasting station to share information externally.

The station began broadcasting at 17:00 on Thursday, introducing information about the coronavirus and other key scientific knowledge. A program of interaction between patients and doctors has also been set up to help put patients' anxieties to rest.

Wuhan has converted three existing public venues, including the Hongshan Gymnasium, the Wuhan International Conference and Exhibition Center and a cultural building complex dubbed the "Wuhan Living Room", into hospitals with a total of 3,400 beds available to meet the needs of infected patients.

As of 00:00 Saturday, the total number of confirmed cases in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps had reached 31,774, with 722 deaths reported. The number of suspected cases was 27,657, while the number of patients who had recovered and been discharged from hospital was 2,050.
