Storyline

Medical staff from all around China and the isolated patients infected with the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) spent a special Lantern Festival Saturday in Wuhan City, the epicenter of the outbreak.

Over 600 doctors and nurses from Hubei Province and other areas like Beijing, Shanghai municipalities and Fujian, Anhui, Henan and Guangdong provinces assembled in Jinyintan Hospital, the largest specialist infectious disease hospital in Wuhan to spend the traditional festival together.

The hospital bought flowers and cooked the traditional treat glue pudding, also known as "Tang Yuan," to the medical staff and patients who combat the virus on the frontline.

Though far away from their families, the medical team from Fujian Province said they are really satisfied and happy to help the patients to recover and be reunited with their families at an early date.

"The epidemic outbreak is really severe here. As a medical worker for so many years, I think I have the capability and I must come here to help the patients. I'll well protect myself to serve more patients," said Zhao Jianming, a member of the medical team.

A virus-infected mother saw her newborn baby in videos on Saturday. She gave birth to the girl on Thursday in Tongji Hospital, who was isolated from her mother immediately.

"[Generally] when the baby is delivered, our midwife will let the mother to kiss the baby at the first time. But in such a special period, we couldn't do that. The mother only heard the baby's cry, saw her from afar unclearly," said Wu Lijian, a doctor of Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of Tongji Hospital.

Ms. Cheng, who was nearly 39 weeks pregnant, sustained high fever and severe viral infection on Thursday. The attending doctor immediately performed cesarean section surgery, and the baby was immediately sent to the neonatal custody room. The doctor recorded several videos of the baby for her on Saturday.

"The mother will feel at ease after seeing her baby healthy and it's also very helpful for her recovery. I think that's the best gift of the Lantern Festival for her," said Chen Ling, a doctor of Pediatric Department.

Two nucleic acid tests on the baby turned to be negative by now and the health indicators of the newborn are also very good. She is waiting for her mother to embrace her after recovery.

"I think a baby's cry in the delivery room or the operating room is the best voice in the world because he or she is a new life. Wuhan will soon return to what it used to be with busy traffic and crowded streets," said doctor Wu.
