Storyline

The Huoshenshan Hospital -- one of the two emergency hospitals newly built in Wuhan City of central China's Hubei Province to tackle the novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak -- has been in orderly operation of treating patients since its entry into service on February 3 after intensive construction of merely more than a week.

After admitting each patient, the medical staff will immediately start evaluation of the severity of his or her condition, give treatment depending on different conditions and adjust the treatment plan according to the state of the illness. All staff members and facilities are working in an intense but orderly manner.

"For the severe cases of patients with a fever or very high body temperature, we support them with oxygen, including flow oxygen uptake, and even with the use of noninvasive and invasive ventilators, together with anti-virus and anti-infection nutrition support as an overall treatment," said Zhao Yuying, director of Inpatient Ward No. 2 of the Department of Infections No. 7 of Huoshenshan Hospital.

Meanwhile, the hospital will organize experts on infectious disease, respiratory medicine and intensive care medicine to have consultation on the patients in severe conditions. So far, patients here are in relatively stable conditions under the careful and thoughtful treatment.

"Some of them have entered a stable phase with all indicators returning to normal and with a good mental state. Some patients are recovering quickly after meticulous treatment and isolation, and some are already expecting the day of discharge," said Zhao.

The Huoshenshan Hospital is an 1,000-bed full-service hospital built in 10 days especially for the treatment of novel coronavirus patients. A total of 1,400 medical staff from the armed forces are tasked with treating the patients at the hospital.

Another newly built hospital in Wuhan, Leishenshan Hospital, admitted the first batch of patients on Saturday.

Wuhan is the epicenter of the novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak since mid-December, which has claimed more than 800 lives so far.
