The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) dispatched 2,600 more medical professionals to help fight the cornonavirus outbreak in central China's Wuhan city on Thursday.
Approved by President Xi Jinping, also Chairman of the Central Military Commission, the first group consisting of 1,400 military medics arrived in the city on Thursday and will be tasked with treating COVID-19 patients in two hospitals - Taikang Tongji Hospital and the Guanggu Branch of Hubei Maternity and Child Health Care Hospital.
A total of six Y-20s were entrusted with the transport mission.
This is the first time that China's domestic Y-20 large transport aircraft have participated in a non-war military operation. It is also the first time that the air force has dispatched large and medium-sized aircraft in active service in a systematic and large-scale airlift mission.
