Storyline

A video diary kept by a young Wuhan lady diagnosed with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has gone viral online and helped cheer countless people up amid the epidemic, with the bright young netizen charting her own personal struggle against the virus.

The Wuhan resident, who goes by the online moniker of "A Bu", was diagnosed with the coronavirus on Feb.7 after showing mild symptoms. Like other mild cases, she was notified to move into one of the temporary hospitals set up in the city, where she has started detailing her daily life via Chinese social media sites.

"Now it's 7:30 in the morning, February 12, 2020. You can see my hair is oily because I didn't wash it. I will show you around to see the real situation inside the temporary hospital," she said in an early post on Wednesday.

A Bu later offered a tour of the hospital which has been set up inside a converted gymnasium, introducing the layout of the facility which has been divided into four main blocks, each with two nurses on duty around the clock.

Her videos give a glimpse into the morning routine, as patients wake, wash themselves and then line up to receive their breakfast pack. Some were seen doing some morning exercises along to music.

"After breakfast, medical workers come to measure our blood oxygen level," she said.

Medics usually conduct the measurements of all inpatients three times a day, with A Bu's footage showing two staff members of a medical team from northwest China's Gansu Province measuring a neighboring patient's temperature.

In addition to running treatment protocols, the medical workers were also seen providing encouragement to the patients to keep their spirits up, and advising them to engage in some light exercise or stimulating activities which will aid their recovery.

"Don't lie on the bed all day. It only does harm to your body if you lie down too long. But if you really don't feel well, please tell the nurses in charge of your block. We doctors and nurses are here for all of you. And please shift your focus, like listening to music or reading books for a while. Please protect yourself and get yourself moving. Don't think of yourself as a patient," a medical worker told the patients.

"The medical workers often come to cheer us up and help us ease the emotional tension. They also teach us to improve our immunity to battle against the virus," said A Bu.

During her stay at the hospital, A Bu has been recording and uploading many short videos on social media platforms which have received huge attention online.

One of her most popular posts in recent days has gone viral around the world, with the uplifting scene showing medical workers and patients joining together for a large group dance in the hospital.

While her social media presence has helped cheer up internet users across the country, it seems A Bu's positive attitude in the face of the crisis is also infectious to those around her in the temporary hospital. She is hopeful to will soon beat the virus and return back to her loving family.

"Another happy thing of the day. The doctor said I left a deep impression on him and that the positivity I have is vital for me to battle against the virus. So I believe I can be discharged shortly and soon reunite with my family," she said.
