Storyline

The medics who rushed from northeast China’s Liaoning Province to central China’s Wuhan to help fight the novel coronavirus epidemic have cheered the local patients up with a special gift – humorous graffiti art.
At Wuhan’s Leishenshan Hospital, a 1,600-bed specialized hospital built only in two weeks (Jan 25-Feb 8), amusing graffiti works painted by the medics of the Liaoning medical support team on the hospital’s corridor walls are bringing joys and courage to both the patients and medics.

One of the most eye-catching pieces is the “Story Between the Oyster and Hot-and-dry Noodle”, which depicts the scenes of Doctor Oyster, a humanized character of oyster, the iconic local specialty of the coastal city of Dalian in Liaoning, taking care of Patient Hot-and-dry Noodle, a humanized character of Wuhan’s famous local delicacy hot-and-dry noodle.

The graffiti’s creator Liu Yu, a nurse with the Liaoning medical support team, said her inspiration came from her experience in the city of Wuhan.

"My inspiration comes from my experience in Wuhan, a city of the brave. The city brought to us many heart-warming feelings," said Liu.

At the beginning of this art-creating enthusiasm, the medics drew on papers and handed their works out to the patents as cheerful gifts. With this initiative becoming more and more popular, they began to draw on each other’s protective cloth and then found a bigger space to showcase their art talent – hospital walls.

"When seeing these amusing drawings created by us, people would get an optimistic and cheerful vibe from this medical team. They were amused, and a good mood helps cure the disease," said Liu Chenxi, a member with the Liaoning medical support team.

"I hope my country can keep all the plagues away, my people can stay healthy all the time," said Sun Dong, another member of the team.

"We are here for the one same goal, so [we created these drawings] to encourage everyone," said Gao Yang, a team member.
