"However, some politicians in the United States have applied stigmatizing practices with some improper words and deeds, which has indeed damaged the joint efforts of the two countries in fighting the epidemic and damaged the atmosphere for improving China-U.S. relations. This is not what we want to see. They have used provoking words and deeds to defame, smear and harm China's interests, which have aroused the indignation of the Chinese people. And of course, the Chinese side should make necessary response."

Storyline

The United States should work with China in the same direction in the battle against the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), rather than damage the bilateral cooperation with stigmatizing practices, said Chinese officials at a press conference on Thursday in Beijing.

According to Luo Zhaohui, vice foreign minister of China, when the outbreak was severe in China, the U.S. government, companies, non-governmental organizations, overseas Chinese and Chinese communities in the United States provided a lot of support to China. Leaders of the United States have also made positive public comments on China's epidemic prevention and control efforts and the cooperation between the two countries, he said.

And of course, the Chinese side should make necessary response," said Luo.

Sound and stable China-U.S. relations not only serves the interests of the two peoples, but also the common aspiration of all countries in the world, Luo noted.

"We urge the U.S. to work with China in the same direction, manage differences on the basis of mutual respect, expand cooperation on the basis of mutual benefit, and jointly advance China-U.S. relations featuring coordination, cooperation and stability. We hope to work with the United States, the American people and other countries and people in the world to fight the epidemic. Transnational problems require transnational cooperation. China and the United States are leading the way in the research and development of anti-epidemic drugs, so bilateral cooperation is good for the both sides and human beings," he said.

Virus is a common threat to human society, and cherishing life is a common value of all mankind, said Deng Boqing, vice chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency.

"Since the outbreak, many American enterprises, non-governmental organizations and individuals have actively provided assistance to the Chinese side, for which we are grateful. We have also seen that as the epidemic situation developed in the U.S., many local governments, enterprises and private institutions in China have also extended their assistance to the U.S. In the face of the epidemic, the international community, including the United States and China, should work together to safeguard global health security and the interests and well-being of the mankind," said Deng.
