Storyline

With the decrease in the number of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) patients in central China's Wuhan, the city has started optimizing its medical resources to enhance treatment of critically ill patients.

The remaining severe patients in Wuhan will all be transferred to one place for concentrated treatment.

The Guanggu branch and Zhongfa Xincheng branch of Wuhan Tongji Hospital have treated more than 20 percent of severe and critically ill patients in the city.

With the close of all 17 coronavirus wards in the Guanggu branch, the remaining 132 severe and critical cases in the hospital were all moved to the Zhongfa Xincheng branch on Monday.

"The eight remaining national medical teams in the Zhongfa Xincheng branch will continue to play to their strengths as top experts. We will not let down our guard, be slack or become weary of fight against the coronavirus. We will fight together until we achieve the final victory," said Hu Junbo, deputy Party secretary of Wuhan Tongji Hospital.

The Leishenshan Hospital, one of the two purposely-built and specialized hospitals in response to the epidemic in Wuhan, has vacated 26 wards on Monday, leaving only six in service.

Most of the 2,006 patients treated in the hospital were cured and discharged, while the remaining critical patients will be given optimized treatment.

"For example, the patients' blood pressure, oxygen levels and other indicators are closely monitored. Critically ill patients are treated by ventilators providing high flow of oxygen. We also offer multidisciplinary consultation to provide expert consultations for critically ill patients with more underlying diseases," said a doctor named Liu Xuewen who currently works at the Leishenshan Hospital.
