Storyline

The first batch of China-aided medical supplies arrived in Kabul, the capital city of Afghanistan, on Thursday.

China stands together with Afghan people to fight the novel coronavirus, Chinese Ambassador to Afghanistan Wang Yu said at a handover ceremony, which was also attended by Mohammad Sarwar Danish, second vice president of Afghanistan.

"Today we witnessed the arrival of the first batch of epidemic prevention supplies from China to Afghanistan," said Danish.

The medical supplies include ventilators, protective suits, face masks and testing kits. At the most difficult moment in China's fight against the COVID-19 outbreak, Afghanistan jointed the international community to extend a helping hand to China. Such expressions of friendship will always be remembered by the Chinese government and people, said the ambassador.

"After the epidemic outbreak in Afghanistan, the Chinese embassy made timely report about the situation to the Chinese government. Attaching great importance to this development, the Chinese government immediately prepared the aid materials. Meanwhile, I think these materials will help alleviate the epidemic in Afghanistan and help the Afghan people," said Wang.

TOLOnews, one of Afghan's most popular news websites covered the event as top news the same day, which won widespread acclaim by the local people.

"I have seen China aided us many times, whether during flooding or earthquake. China's always helped us," said Ahmad, a local resident.

"I'd like to thank China for its help. Now you are helping us to fight against the coronavirus epidemic. Thank you again," said Saifullah, another resident.

A total of 19 more confirmed COVID-19 cases have been reported in Afghanistan over the past 24 hours, bringing the number of confirmed cases to 273, Public Health Ministry spokesman Wahidullah Mayar said Friday.
