"Because epidemics are actually, in my view, a greater risk than anything else, yes, countries, including the U.S., including China, will need to spend both for this epidemic and to be ready for the next one tens of billions of dollars, but in fact, in terms of the overall economy or government budgets, it's a very small amount of money. There is no more urgent task in the world today than getting a high volume, safe, highly effective coronavirus vaccine."

"I’d say it's ironic if you take somebody who is doing their best to get the world ready and putting, in my case, billions of dollars into these tools for infectious diseases, and really trying to solve, probably infectious diseases, including those that can cause pandemics. We are in a crazy situation, so there is going to be crazy rumors. I hope whether it's individuals or countries, in some ways, this shows how interdependent we are that to stop a global pandemic, we need to find whoever is the best, whenever the best vaccine comes out, or the best drugs, and we need to make it without just focusing on one country, we need to make it for the entire world, including for countries that don't have the resources to pay for vaccine research and vaccine factories, they are actually, in many ways, should be the priority for what we do. There is lots of attacks out there, but in general, people have been very positive."

"The idea that vaccines should get to everyone in the world, that's one of the great priorities of the gates foundation. We fund the innovators to create those vaccines, we will get commitment that they will not try to make a profit, a meaningful profit out of this because this is an emergency type need and we shouldn't let that stand in the way. The company that makes this will get a lot of prestige, it may help them for their platform for going after other diseases, but here, we will make is as cheap as we can, and there is no doubt that the money will be, should be found to buy that vaccine for everyone on the planet."

Countries around the world should invest more in public health, particularly in the research and development of vaccines, so as to contain the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and also get ready for challenges posed by future diseases, famous American entrepreneur Bill Gates said Thursday.
In a TV interview with China Central Television (CCTV), the Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist said that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, private philanthropic foundation founded by Gates and his wife, has been supporting researches on COVID-19 vaccines, and has urged governments around the world to invest more in health researches.
There is no more urgent task in the world today than getting a high volume, safe, highly effective coronavirus vaccine," Gates said.
During the interview, Gates also responded to the theory of conspiracy that he created the virus, describing it as "crazy rumors" in a "crazy situation".
He also pointed out that the pandemic has showed how interdependent countries are, and called for more efforts to help those who do not have resources to cope with the situation.

There is lots of attacks out there, but in general, people have been very positive," Gates said.
His foundation, according to Gates, will try to ensure that the vaccines, when they come out, will be affordable for and accessible to everyone in the world.
