I told my colleagues to remain confident and courageous, as confidence could enable us to analyze clearly problems and find a solution. The second is to strictly control cost and improve efficiency. Sometimes people may focus on controlling cost to the neglect of efficiency. But I think only by improving efficiency is it possible to tide over the tests by the winter. The third is to make innovations. Only by keeping innovating is it possible for us to tide over the entire economic cycle. "

"As people have to do home cooking and work at home during the shutdown, Xiaomi's kitchen appliances would be on higher demand. Besides, Xiaomi would increase its investment in e-commerce, which is getting more and more popular. Many deals, which used to do off line, have been moved to on-line. 13. Interview
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought both opportunities and challenges to his business, said Lei Jun, chairman of board of China's tech giant Xiaomi Corp.during an Interview with CCTV on Monday.
"The impact is mainly felt in three aspects. The first is production, especially in February and March. The second is demand, as many retailers were closed down in February and March. The third is the pressure of international situation after China has basically recovered," said Lei.
Now both production and consumption have returned to normal in China, he said. "Xiaomi's Wuhan headquarters resumed work on March 30. None of the tens of thousands of people there got infected with the COVID-19."
Lei listed three aspects on how his enterprises got over the impact by the epidemic.
"The first is to have courage and confidence. It is essential to remain calm. Only by keeping innovating is it possible for us to tide over the entire economic cycle," said Lei.
On the saying that there are opportunities during crisis, Lei said:"As people have to do home cooking and work at home during the shutdown, Xiaomi's kitchen appliances would be on higher demand. Besides, Xiaomi would increase its investment in e-commerce, which is getting more and more popular. Many deals, which used to do off line, have been moved to on-line. I think Xiaomi should grab such the dividends brought by the internet."
Lei said that after the impact, Xiaomi will adjust its targets for the operations in 90 countries.
"We aim to keep the original target, with a fine-tuning. So we have to motivate all the employees around the globe to make concerted efforts to meet the target," said Lei.
Xiaomi Corp. has donated 10 million yuan to the Wuhan Charity Federation and protective supplies worth 22 million yuan to hospitals in Hubei Province to help fight the COVID-19 epidemic. The Xiaomi Foundation has also donated 1.11 million yuan to Wuhan and medical supplies worth 10.77 million yuan to more than 30 hospitals in Hubei.
The company plans to provide 1,000 more jobs this year, mainly to children of medical workers who risked their lives to fight the epidemic. Two-thirds of the jobs will be offered to graduates this year, and the recruit is already underway, Lei said.
