Now things are getting better, though the number of customers are less than before. We can at least make some earnings. If everyone follows the requirement of the government, I believe that things will get better and our business can pick up as well."

Storyline

Some business facilities and public places in Thailand reopened to customers starting Sunday following the eased restrictions, after a decrease in the number of new COVID-19 cases across the nation.

Since the beginning of May, Thailand has been reporting single digit daily cases of COVID-19; hence the government relaxed parts of control measures and resumed the operation of parks, hair salons, markets and restaurants so that people can return to their normal life.

Cyclists, joggers and families were arriving at the Lumphini Park in the early morning of Monday in downtown Bangkok.

Residents are required to receive body temperature check before entering the park to work out.

"Our park reopened yesterday (May 3) from 05:30 to 20:00. Visitors need to wear face masks or they will not be allowed to get in. Most residents are here to work out like taking a walk or jogging. But team sports are still restricted. They are supposed to work out alone," said Danai, security guard at the Lumphini Park.

In the meanwhile, hair salons welcome some customers after a month of lockdown. They have to wear face masks and be separated for social distancing.

They also receive body temperature check and hand sanitizing before entering.

The owners of hair salons were happy with the resumption of business.

"We are so glad that the shop is allowed to reopen now. We earned zero income over the past month due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Before that, we had quite stable income each day and each month. Now things are getting better, though the number of customers are less than before. We can at least make some earnings. If everyone follows the requirement of the government, I believe that things will get better and our business can pick up as well," she said.
