A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Friday urged the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities in Taiwan to immediately stop attacking and making unwarranted comments on the deliberation of a draft decision regarding Hong Kong by the National People's Congress (NPC).
The DPP authorities must stop its political manipulations over Hong Kong affairs, said Ma Xiaoguang, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.
He responded to media requests to comment on the attacks of the DPP authorities on the deliberation of the draft decision by the 13th NPC during its third session on establishing and improving a legal system and enforcement mechanism for safeguarding national security in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).
It is hoped that certain political forces in Taiwan can distinguish right from wrong, and do things conducive to Hong Kong's prosperity and stability as well as the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations, Ma said.
Establishing and improving a legal system and enforcement mechanism for safeguarding national security in the HKSAR is both highly necessary and important. It aims to safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests, uphold the long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong and ensure the correct implementation of the "one country, two systems" principle, he said.
For a period of time, the DPP authorities and the forces advocating "Taiwan independence" have colluded with those forces advocating "Hong Kong independence" and the international anti-China forces to wantonly interfere in Hong Kong affairs and create troubles by taking advantage of the disturbance related to proposed ordinance amendments in Hong Kong, the spokesperson noted.
They aided and abetted activities intended to oppose the Chinese mainland and disrupt Hong Kong and smear the "one country, two systems" principle so as to support the secessionist activities for "Taiwan independence," Ma added.
Their plot is doomed to fail, he said.
