"Since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak, the NPC Standing Committee has acted promptly and performed its lawful duty. We made the decision to completely ban illegal trade and consumption of wildlife. In light of new issues and circumstances in the public health field, the NPC Standing Committee arranged for the enactment and revision of laws to strengthen legal guarantees for public health."

The third session of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, held its second plenary meeting Monday afternoon.
Chairman of the 13th NPC Standing Committee Li Zhanshu delivered a work report to the NPC deputies on behalf of the 13th NPC Standing Committee.
Xi Jinping and other Chinese leaders attended the plenary meeting at the Great Hall of the People.
In his report, Li summed up the legislative work of the NPC Standing Committee in several fronts, including what it has done to cope with the COVID-19 epidemic.
"Since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak, the NPC Standing Committee has acted promptly and performed its lawful duty. We made the decision to completely ban illegal trade and consumption of wildlife. In light of new issues and circumstances in the public health field, the NPC Standing Committee arranged for the enactment and revision of laws to strengthen legal guarantees for public health," said Li.
At the meeting, the deputies also heard the work report of the Supreme People's Court delivered by its president Zhou Qiang and the work report of the Supreme People's Procuratorate delivered by Procurator-General Zhang Jun.
