Storyline

China's shipbuilding industry recently saw full production resumption and progress in a series of key projects.

A fresh cooperation contract was inked on Friday between China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC), China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) and the government of south China's Guangdong Province.

According to the contract, CSSC will complete the transformation of roughly 1,500 liquified natural gas (LNG) carriers in Guangdong by 2025. A total of 19 LNG fueling stations will also be constructed by then. Upon completion, the annual need for ship-use liquified natural gas will be around 400,000 tons.

"The signing of the tripartite arrangement can bring together our green ship-related technologies, clean energy and the green construction of the Pearl River in Guangdong. It will also integrate the powers of enterprises, the society and the government. Together they will become a strong force in promoting the coordinated development of economic construction and ecological progress," said Sun Wei, the deputy general manager of China State Shipbuilding Corporation.

Meanwhile, one of the two liquefied gas carriers with a carrying capacity of 84,000 cubic meters each were also handed over by one of China's largest shipbuilders Jiangnan Shipyard (Group) Co., Ltd. in May, marking the fifth hand-over of the company this year.

"To secure our orders and ensure progress, Jiangnan Shipyard started building five VLGC (Very Large Gas Carrier) simultaneously. We pushed aside all obstacles as the construction team used effective labor resources and focused on their daily plans. This has greatly reduced the trial voyage time and time on the dock, laying solid foundation for a hand-over ahead of schedule," said Wei Xiaoyong, the chief architect of the 84,000-cubic-meter liquefied-gas tanker.

The construction of a series of CSSC major projects also picked up speed in May, with the Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Company Limited's container ship with 2,350 TEU, or Twenty-feet Equivalent Units, completing its trial voyage, and Chengxi Shipyard's 70,000-ton chip carrier launched.
