The coronavirus pandemic has entered a "new and dangerous phase" as the daily new COVID-19 cases hit a record high with more than 150,000 reported worldwide on Thursday, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned Friday.
The global confirmed infections of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) climbed to reach 8,385,440 as of 15:18 CEST, Friday, according to the report from the World Health Organization (WHO).
At a press conference held in Geneva, Switzerland on Friday, WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus called for “extreme vigilance” in the battle against the coronavirus.
"More than 150,000 new cases of COVID-19 were reported to WHO yesterday, the most in a single day so far. The world is in a new and dangerous phase. But the virus is still spreading fast. It is still deadly and most people are still susceptible. We call on all countries and all people to exercise extreme vigilance," said Tedros.
The total fatality worldwide stood at 450,686.
The United States is still the worst-hit country in the world in terms of total infections and fatalities, followed by Brazil and Russia.
