Storyline

Beijing reported seven new confirmed domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases on Sunday, an official from the Chinese capital's Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) said Monday.

Pang Xinghuo, deputy director of the Beijing CDC, elaborated on the new infections at a regular press conference.

"From 00:00 to 24:00 on June 28, Beijing reported seven new confirmed cases, three males and four females. Their average age is 38, with the youngest being 25 and the eldest, 56. By place of residence, five are from Fengtai District and two from Daxing District," Pang said.

According to the official, the seven cases are all directly or indirectly related to the Xinfadi Farm Produce Wholesale Market in Fengtai District where a new cluster of infections was detected on June 11.

From June 11 to 28, Beijing had reported 318 confirmed locally transmitted cases, all of whom are receiving treatment. Meanwhile, there are 26 asymptomatic cases still under medical observation, according to the municipal health commission.

The new cluster infections emerged after the city observed 57 days without reports of locally transmitted cases.
