Storyline


The regional government in Catalonia, Spain decided on Sunday to re-impose lockdown measures beginning on Monday in the city of Lleida and seven other areas due to surging COVID-19 cases.

The decision came following the recent outbreak in some parts of the country.

As one of the hardest-hit regions in the epidemic, Catalonia reported 816 new patients on Sunday.

In Catalonia, a total of 76,318 cases have been reported since the epidemic broke out, and the death toll from confirmed or suspected cases has reached 12,617.

According to statistics, the number of single daily confirmed COVID-19 cases in the urban area of Barcelona has almost quadrupled in the past 12 days.

In Spain, there have been 253,908 confirmed cases of the virus with 28,403 deaths from February 2 to July 12, according to data from the World Health Organization.
