"In response to the wrongdoing of the U.S. side, China has decided to implement reciprocal sanctions against the U.S. Congressional-Executive Commission on China, the U.S. State Department ambassador-at-large for International Religious Freedom [Sam] Brownback, Senator [Marco] Rubio, Senator [Ted] Cruz, and Congressman [Chris] Smith. We must point out that Xinjiang affairs are entirely China's internal affairs. The U.S. has no right and is in no position to interfere in Xinjiang affairs. The Chinese government is determined to safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests, combat violent terrorism, separatism and religious extremism, and oppose any foreign interference in Xinjiang affairs and China's other internal affairs."

China has decided to impose sanctions on four United States officials and an institution who have acted viciously on issues related to Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region as a reciprocal measure against relevant moves made earlier by the U.S., a foreign ministry spokeswoman said Monday.
According to spokeswoman Hua Chunying at a regular press briefing, the sanctions will be applied on the U.S. Congressional-Executive Commission on China, Senator Marco Rubio, Senator Ted Cruz, Congressman Chris Smith, and Sam Brownback, the U.S. State Department ambassador-at-large for International Religious Freedom.
"We must point out that Xinjiang affairs are entirely China's internal affairs. The U.S. has no right and is in no position to interfere in Xinjiang affairs. The Chinese government is determined to safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests, combat violent terrorism, separatism and religious extremism, and oppose any foreign interference in Xinjiang affairs and China's other internal affairs," said Hua.
